Sunset at Wolf Trap

Imagine this. An evening of music with a fresh summer breeze in the air and the beautiful transition from day to night that reinforces the silhouettes of cotton candy clouds against the sky. The music from the orchestra flows outside in nature, it is a one of a kind experience. Concert-goers tonight sit on the lawn, leaning back, relaxing, feeling the warmth of summer on their faces and hearing the orchestra's music in their ears. Deep sounds from the double bass section resonate in harmony. And the magic of this all is amplified by the intricate and intense play of soloist Sarah Chang on the violin.

This was our concert tonight at the Filene Center, an outdoor amphitheatre on the grounds of the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. No word other than magnificent would describe this evening at best.

There are 4,000 seats inside the Filene Center, and this section is covered by a roof. In addition, there are 3,000 seats outside on the lawn. A large stage and panels work hand in hand to bring the acoustics that effectively reflects the sounds on stage to the audience and the surrounding nature. It is where art and nature come together to make magic.

The audience loved the AYO tonight - enthusiastic crowds stood, giving multiple standing ovations as the orchestra finished each piece of music. Even the fireflies were dancing. At closing, the applause remained enthusiastic, cheers continued to linger.

Tomorrow, we are traveling by bus to North Carolina where we will perform at the Brevard Music Centre. No doubt tonight's excitement will keep the sleepless AYO trying to catch up on sleep over this trek.

A special note of appreciation tonight is warranted for Ms. Chang and her lovely mother who personally made sure the AYO members all had dinner. Thank you both for your thoughtfulness.
