Showers

A typhoon warning sent the stage team and the orchestra scrambling - a decision was made moments ago, to move up tonight's evening concert to the afternoon. But be it five hours earlier than plan, the team was immediately at work, setting the stage like clockwork. A fully spirited orchestra was ready, on stage at 2:30 p.m.

How about the weather's impact on audience attendance? The fact is no thunder or storm will ever match the enthusiasm that the people of Chiayi have showered on the AYO. In no time, crowds filled the concert hall of the Chiayi Cultural Centre.

Today was a dress-down concert due to the last-minute changes causing adrenaline to rush. Our orchestra members donned their red polo shirts, not their formal ensemble attire. They looked nicely fired up to play. Then, Mr. Pontzious walked out on stage holding an umbrella over his head. Roars of laughter echoed throughout the hall.

All the excitement of the afternoon deserved a special encore to close. Maestro Pontzious and the orchestra presented the William Tell Overture composed by Gioachino Rossini. It was a majestic rendering.

Chiayi has been showering us with a lot of rain. But it has also been raining on us a lot of heart.

  1. This is the power of music. Nothing connects to the moment like music that it unites every one across religious beliefs and race. Nothing stops musicians’ passion, even the sun scorches, heavy rain pounds, and typhoon roars! Act on doing it, AYO players! Best of luck for all the upcoming concerts and enjoy every moment on stage :)

    2. My pleasure! Deep appreciation for your effort on making a journal for AYO, too. Quoted, "music speaks when words can't" - hope their music will keep you inspired all the way through the blogging x

  2. I was in the concert. When I received the news the concert will start 5 hours earlier, it was 11:00 in the morning and I was in Kaohsiung. I immediately rushed from Kaohsiung to Chiayi by taxi. When I saw the full house audience, I was astonished by the efficiency and enthusiasm of people in Chiayi and Taiwan. Even though there was heavy rain and fierce storm outside, it didn't affect the performance of Sarah Chang and the AYO players a bit. What a fantastic concert. Good job for everyone who made this successful event!
