Fog and Fabulousness

Foggy and fabulous San Francisco is where we are today. We made our flight east to west across the Pacific Ocean, crossing the imaginary international date line and adding a day. We arrived here slightly jet-lagged but happy at noon yesterday.

We're staying in the inner city's financial district. From here we spent an exciting day today, given that for the first time in weeks we had a full day open for sight-seeing and relaxation. The last we had a free day was during rehearsals in Chiayi City. Time flies.

The Golden Gate Bridge, Yosemite National Park, the Fisherman’s Wharf, and the American fast food chain In-N-Out were some spots many of us wanted to go to visit. We wanted to try out some Ghirardelli chocolate squares, American hamburgers, clam chowder in bread bowls, and cherry Coke. All together among us all, we must have taken thousands of selfies and photos on our smartphones as we filled our lungs with fresh air from the bay, checked out the seagulls, and took in the lovely cityscape of iconic skyscrapers and residences, an eclectic mix of Victorian and modern architecture. This is the place our parents sing of when they do, I Left My Heart in San Francisco. How they became familiar with this American oldie, we do not know. We must ask when we reach home.

Tomorrow morning, we will take a bus from our hotel to the Hammer Theatre on the campus of San Jose University. It is right in the heart of downtown San Jose. There, the orchestra members will have an acoustic rehearsal first. Then they will be on stage for the first of five performances in the United States. More to follow soon.
