AYO in the Capital

We are in the capital city of the United States, Washington, D.C. The city is compact and daytime commuters come from inside D.C. as well as the neighbouring states of Virginia and Maryland to work in federal government offices, policy think tanks, galleries, research institutions, and museums. Foreign diplomatic missions to the U.S are well represented in this city.

This evening, a reception saluting the AYO was held at the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Washington Office on 18th Street. It was a beautiful reception where the Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs, Mr. Clement Leung, greeted us warmly. We are eternally grateful to our hosts for their gracious welcome.

Fast track to the day’s morning. We had a full morning and afternoon off. It was unanimous that we didn’t want to waste a minute to become tourists.

Some of us chose to focus on the historical sites. The majority was bound for the White House and the National Air and Space Museum. In true American fashion, others went to see a baseball game – the Miami Marlins vs the Washington Nationals at the Nationals Park baseball stadium. Later when we all shared our stories of the day and exchanged notes, we agreed that many of us had enjoyed burgers and fries at fast food chains such as Shake Shack. Here we are in America!

Tomorrow, we will be performing at the Filene Center at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. The outdoor amphitheatre on the grounds of the park is designed for the arts to thrive in harmony with nature.

By the way, the park's name “Wolf Trap” comes from the fact, many years ago, wolves and other wild animals were frequently spotted in the area. No longer as many, we are surely curious and looking forward to our visit there.
