Day 4

Today marks the fourth day of Rehearsal Camp and it does not fall short on excitement. It is a busy place here at the Rehearsal Camp in Chiayi City and AYO founder and conductor Richard Pontzious is in the midst of the action. He is everywhere, greeting AYO members as they step off of the bus and running around as he is needed for flute sectional rehearsals, coaching a flutist who is having trouble with a sensitive solo, and eventually for concertmaster auditions where tough decisions are made.

On his lunch break, however, I managed to snag him and got to hear a bit of insight from him about the orchestra members this year. He explained that the level of playing from the musicians has gotten higher and higher each year and  that "to offer them this opportunity for study is very special."

To end off a whirlwind of a day were rehearsals with Maestro James Judd and torrential rain that ended the music early so that we may return home safely.
